I finished work in Belgrade a few weeks ago, and flew from there to Madrid. I spent a week with my Chilean friends Sebastian and Pauli: that was nice. I visted the Prado a few times, the Reina Sofia, Toledo and Segovia. Also, Seba and I climbed at La Pedriza for a day, which was really remarkable. I think that we climbed 6 pitches and hiked for 8 hours --- fantastic. I flew from Madrid to Istanbul, where I spent about a week exploring. I mostly stayed in the city, but spent a day in the ancient city of Ephesus, which was very interesting, albeit a bit touristy. I took a train along the old Orient Express route back to Belgrade, but was delayed in Sofia, Bulgaria for a day. I didn't find anything interesting there. I arrived back in Belgrade a day late, and spent less than 24 hours there before flying back to the USA. When I arrived in Boston I hadn't slept in a bed in almost a week-- only buses, trains, and all-nighters. I have spent the last week in Maine, and tried flying back to the West Coast yesterday, but my flight was canceled. So, tomorrow morning I will try again. The pictures above are only of Spain, I will post more later.
